Virginia ACLU Insists Trans Kids ‘Not a Threat’, Dodges Questions on Loudoun County Scandal

The Virginia American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) Wednesday insisted that transgender students are “not a threat,” amid the bombshell report that a ninth-grade girl in Loudoun County was allegedly raped by a transgender girl – biologically male – in the bathroom at Stone Bridge High School.

“TRANS KIDS ARE NOT A THREAT,” the group said nine times in one tweet.

The tweet was sent just one day after The Daily Wire’s explosive story, wherein Scott Smith, the man who made national news for his arrest at a Loudoun County School Board (LCSB) meeting on June 22, said that his ninth-grade daughter had been raped by a biological male wearing a skirt in a bathroom at Stone Bridge High School.

Smith also alleged that Loudoun County Public Schools (LCPS) covered up the rape allegations.

During the June 22 LCSB meeting, Loudoun County Superintendent Scott Zeigler defended the county’s transgender bathroom policy, saying “the predator transgender student or person simply does not exist,” and that, “We don’t have any record of assaults occurring in our restrooms.”

But the alleged rape of Smith’s daughter occurred on May 28.

The Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office this week confirmed that it had been investigating the rape for two months.

In a confounding Wednesday statement to The Virginia Star, LCPS said members of the school board had no knowledge of the alleged rape until it was reported in the news media this week. But it also said that the “Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office was contacted within minutes of receiving the [school’s internal] initial report on May 28.” They also appeared to justify Smith’s arrest by saying that they were “unable to locate any records that indicate that Scott Smith had registered in advance to speak at the June 22, 2021 board meeting.”

The Star reached out to the ACLU for comment on the LCPS scandal.

The organization declined to comment on that issue, but its Senior Communications Manager Meredith Mason said the ACLU is “a multi-issue organization focused on civil rights and civil liberties – that includes ensuring equal rights for transgender Virginians and other marginalized communities.”

“Our top priorities are voting rights, ending mass incarceration, and reimagining public safety,” she said.
